Correspondence from Alma Mahler, ca. 1956.

The apparently angry letter concerns Alma Mahler's gift to Willem Mengelberg of the handwritten score of Gustav Mahler's seventh symphony; it mentions a communication she just received from the Mahler Gesellschaft in Amsterdam (section of the Internationale Gustav Mahler Gesellschaft), in which Bruno Walter is given as Ehrenpräsident (honorary president) and Alma Mahler is not mentioned. Alma Mahler had made the gift to Mengelberg with the understanding that it was to be willed to the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam, in Alma Mahler's name, upon Mengelberg's death. See related correspondence under the correspondents: American League of Authors and Composers from Austria; and Internationale Gustav Mahler Gesellschaft.
